Heritage walk on World Heritage Day

MM School of Architecture celebrated the World Heritage Day on 18th April by organizing a Heritage Walk for its students. The aim of the walk was to spread awareness among the budding architects and the local residents and property holders about the rich heritage value associated with Ambala Cantonment particularly the Sadar Bazaar area.

Ambala Cantt is a historic colonial cantonment town that was established by the British in 1843. It was a vibrant town besides being an important military station. Sadar Bazaar is the historic quarter of Ambala Cantt which possesses the historic structures particularly the shophouses. It was historically the area occupied by the locals to carry out trade that supported the military settlement.

The walk started from the DC Road which posseses the major trade of the area and covered up the major bazaar streets. The route covered up many historic structures that demonstrate the traditional architectural heritage of the town. The students were made aware of the various architectural styles that characterize the town.

The heritage walk was a success as it ignited great enthusiasm among the locals and the students.
