Poster Competition on Understanding the architectural vocabulary of Le Corbusier & Pierre Jeanneret in Chandigarh

In Rowan Moore’s words “If you can tell a man by his shoes, you can tell a city by its pavements. Chandigarh is no doubt one of the finest examples of a city that belongs to its inhabitants.The first modern administrative capital was born and embraced all those who came to live here with open arms. Le Corbusier said after Chandigarh came into being that “The seed of Chandigarh is well sown. It is for the citizens to see that the tree flourishes.”
As the time passed, the city that was originally planned for 5lakhs grew to house double citizens. Now it was time that the legacy that was left to its citizens to take care of the city.


With this in view, SAAKAR Foundations, Le Corbusier Foundation and ACT Chandigarh along with MM School of Architecture and a galaxy of prominent institutions organised a tri-webinar series on Process of Chandigarh which started on 25th March, 2021. The past, the present and the future of Chandigarh was discussed by a very enlightened panel of architects, urban designers, urban planners and heritage enthusiasts in the tri-webinar series.


As a part of this series, MM School of Architecture organiseda lecture on Urban Planning of Chandigarh on 24th March to ignite the understanding of planning. The School also organiseda poster making competition on 7th April 2021 on the theme of“Understanding the architectural vocabulary of Le Corbusier & Pierre Jeanneret in Chandigarh”. The topic was so chosen that the charisma and aesthetics of the city can be imbibed by the future architects and designers so that the character of the city is never lost. 18 entries were received in digital format for evaluation. The winners of the competition are:


• Ist Prize: Nitin Chadha (3rd year B.Arch)
• 2nd Prize: Mishul Gupta (3rd year B.Arch)
• 3rd Prize: ManikGaba (3rd year B.Arch)
